Can a imac be wireless?
I personnaly own a Mac Pro and can make it 100% wireless (aside from power of course) by going into the system preferences and changing the ethernet settings to open this lets me tap into neighbors connections. If you have a modem and want to connect your imac to it you may want to consult apple and your internet service provider to see if the two will work together.(the imac and router that is)

All macs have had wifi built in for a while now. Configure it in the Network Preference pane.
Perhaps obvious, but you need to be within range of an open wireless network. It's not just "everywhere".

try checking out the wireless properties. from there you can configure your wireless connectivity. there is a way to solve your problem.
click on start - select control panel - click on "switch to classic view" - then click on 'network and sharing center' - on the left hand side you'll see 'tasks" and under it youll see "manage wireless networks" and 'manage network connection' there is something like "connect to this network everytime i turn on my pc" please try to look it up there.
also you can try this. click on start - select "connect to" then the connect to a network window will open - look for your network on the network list - then right click on it - select properties - then from there you will have some option.
also, you can try calling up your computer manufacturer's help desk for assistance.
i do not have my work manuals here that is why im kind a lacking in my instructions, however i have dealt with this issue many times when i worked for hp/compaq as a help desk support.
also try checking out this website: www.vistasimulator.com, its a vista simulator, you can try stuff here before trying it on your computer.

Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter IP Address?
Hey. I've recently bought my third Xbox 360 wireless adapter (The first two were broken and failed to register with the Xbox) and with the stroke of bad luck I'm having, I don't want to open this new one until I get one more thing straight.
See, after my first two Wireless Adapters were confirmed broken, I exchanged for a Pelican one. It worked where the others failed, but the Pelican 360 Adapter's IP Address was set to 192.168.1.xxx, and our home router's set to 192.168.0.xxx instead (For security measures.) And of course, the Pelican one wouldn't work with our router for that reason. So I'm wondering if the third Microsoft brand (overpriced) Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter is set to 192.168.1.xxx instead of being changeable based on the router.
That is, if this one isn't broken, and it registers on the Xbox =P.

Every time i shut down my computer and turn it back on I lose my internet settings?
I'm not sure what to do. My wireless internet settings reset every time I restart my computer and I have to set everything up all over again. I think it saves my previous settings, but just doesn't let me use them because each time the connection settings number increases (i'm currently on "Wireless Connection 10") It's gotten to the point where I try not to turn my PC off anymore though that's not really healthy. I'm running 64-bit Vista, have a linksys wireless pci card and netgear wireless router. Anyone have any clue what could cause this? Is it a hardware thing or a software thing? I'm half tempted to switch back to Windows XP to see if that would help.

I have two DSL modems and two wireless Internet Broadband Routers. My PC has a wireless lan card. I usually set my lan card to connect to the router that connects to 1Mbps DSL modem. Frequent network hiccups are common, in this case I have to switch it to the second one - click here and there.
Is there a way - a software - that allows me to utilize both connections together. It is probably a load balancer or something. I want to install it on my system. If possible, please only suggest opensource or free software. Or is it possible by configuring something in windows. I have windows 2000 professional. Thanks.

I cant connect to my wireless network?
The tech says my router is 802.11 h+g, and I need to change the settings in my laptop from 802.11 b/g to 802.11 h+g. How do I do that? I was wondering if I could use a subcribe modem I have at home at my work place. At work we dont have internet, and it gets kind borring sometimes. Could I just take my DSL modem and connect it to the phoneline and have internet?

1) Keep up with people you never talk to birthday's

My wireless internet has stopped working, help?
I have a hp laptop, I use verizon broadband. I have a desktop pc that works and also my daughters laptop that hasn't had any problems with the wireless. It was working fine for many months and then it stopped, to use the laptop I have to connect it to the ethernet cable from the modem/router. It came back after a day off and disappeared again and again another day later then off again for 2 days now. Can't even find wireless on my pc, the icon has gone and even in the control panel where you can see the network and other nearby ones, strange. And no its not the switch on the pc that turns the wireless off and on, its supposed to be lit blue and its orange when I'm not getting it. What the heck is going on? Like I said can't even bring up the wireless from icon tray or control panel, its like theres no wireless installed but its built-in. Any help would be sooo appreciated, Thanks.

first, is there a way to assign specific ips to specific mac adresses on my lan, while i have dhcp on ?!
heres how my topology works:
my cisco 2811 gives out ip through dhcp, now i have 5 machines that i cannot set static ips 2, since i move them around more often so i have to leave their dhcp option enabled, on the other hand i want the router to give them SPECIFIC ips each time theyre connected to its lan due to the fact tht i have different shaping solutions set for those specific machines..
so once again my quesiotn is there a command that instructs the router to give ips that i specified to those machines each time they connect?!
secondly, is there a way to monitor each ip's bandwidth usage?! like some utility or someway in router options!

The first part is pretty easy, you just need a manual binding, you can find the syntax for it, and all other things DHCP, here:

The second part gets a little more complicated. There are tons of options, what's your budget, needs and experience. Look into NetFlow which is free in IOS. If you Google for Netflow Collectors, you might find some open source ones, you will certainly find a lot of them you can buy.

Ok so it was storming earlier and I tried to shut down my computer while it was storming but it cut off in the middle of shutdown. So I turn it on but now every time I turn it on it opens up a Check Disk thing but it never finishes (It stops at stage 4 of 5 and loads up about 9000 files out of about 76000) and not only that it will not connect to the network I was on with the other computer in the house and I connected by a RJ 45 cable not wireless. So could somebody try and help me figure out what is happening. Oh also I am running Windows Vista Home Edition 64 bit I believe.

I not 100% sure on the question, however, if your asking what is the reason for using a network simulator it is simply because networking equipment is extremely expensive and when your building a lab environment network you don't want to spend thousands of dollars. There are also traffic simulators for networks which are often used to test QoS on networks and this is used because you can't test an established network for problems during peak times so you verify that it is working in a simulation or off hours in hopes to avoid harming that network.

WIFI Internet Doesn't Connect After Restart?
I have recently had problems with my WIFI. I have a Belkin 54G router, and a couple of days ago, my mum was using it and she said it cut off and there was the EXCLAMATION mark next to the device in device manager. I uninstalled the driver and re-installed it and reinstalled the whole router settings and it worked.
But ever since this, after re-booting my laptop it doesnt find the network so I have to uninstall the whole wireless again and again and re-do all the settings. HELP !! What can I do?

First-off, you need a Network Switch. I would go with a 5 or 8 port, just for future expansion. I have 2 desktops in different parts of the house, each next to a phone socket but too far apart to connect to the same router/modem wirelessly. I have a wireless Siemens Gigabit SE587WLANds router/modem and a Alcatel Speedtouch 330 modem. If I connect one to each pc will both pcs be able to connect to the isp either at the same time or seperately ? The isp is Tiscali (max unlimited).

I don't think this would be possible. Best would be to either run a CAT5 UTP cable to the other machine from the one modem router (no longer than 100m) or set up a repeating network with a Netgear DG834 ADSL modem and a Netgear WG602v4 access point/repeater. Then you would require a wireless network card in the second computer.

I don't think this would be possible. Best would be to either run a CAT5 UTP cable to the other machine from the one modem router (no longer than 100m) or set up a repeating network with a Netgear DG834 ADSL modem and a Netgear WG602v4 access point/repeater. Then you would require a wireless network card in the second computer.

We have a D-Link wireless router and ive got a D-Link wireless PCI card in my desktop computer. I can connect to our wireless router with great strength but i cannot get onto internet using Internet Explorer or Firefox. We have a laptop which can connect to the internet good but not the desktop.

A couple a days ago I was able to connected to my wireless router without any problem but yesterday I got a message saying my wireless connection had "limited or no connectivity". Now, I trade rebooting my router and shutting down my PC to fix the issue but was unsuccessful.

Try manually configuring your IP address, gateway and DNS server settings on your computer.

Use an IP address where the first three sets of numbers are the same and make the fourth set different to any other value (in the fourth set) on the network; but not 0, 1 or 255.
If he has his IP settings set to "Obtain an IP address"; then you must make sure that all the settings on your Network Connection tab for Wireless connection are the same - i.e. Obtain. Any values already there have to be removed for this situation.
Why are you getting "limited or no connectivity"? Because there is no overlap between the IP address and subnet range of the router/modem and those of your PC, so access cannot occur. For example:
Router 192.168.1.1 subnet 255.255.255.0 can only connect with devices 192.168.1.nn where n = 2 to 254
Router 192.168.0.1 subnet 255.255.0.0 can only connect with devices 192.168.nn.pp which is 254 times as many addresses as the previous case.
The router value is the IP address of the router.
The DNS values could be one which is the same as the gateway, and the other a REAL IP address (usually your provider's value) though depending on the ISP, the DNS values could be dynamically set by the ISP every time you turn the modem on.
So it has to be either totally DHCP or totally manually set. I run all my devices with static addresses; but that is just the easiest way or me.
If you set the crook PC to relevant totally static address, you would then know if the PC is too far away from the modem/router. Unlikely, unless things have recently been moved around.

There are two ways to do this.

Why won't my broadband work?
I've moved house 6 weeks ago.
Orange states that 1 week ago broadband became connected.
The BT phone line works, however I've tried 3 modems and none of them shows an ADSL or DSL light.
I've tried all known BT sockets around the house and 2 different filters with the 3 different modems in every possible combination.
Does anyone know the answer?
Please don't be too tekky with your answers. I understand some things, but not others, so basic answers would be the best.

Eventually, I talked to the one guy that seemed to know something and he said "try restarting your modem now" and it worked. Can't tell you what he did, but I CAN tell you that you should have gone with cable if it was an option.
Best thing to do is to keep calling and keep complaining. Don't pay a dime until they get it working.

Did u configure the modem to the correct specification of ur ISP ? Is ur Phone line is having any disturbance ?
In both of these cases u , can call ISP %26amp; ask them to sort it out 4 u ....

Sky Broadband (Sagem router) won't connect?
My telephone line has been transferred to sky today so had to remove my trusty old sagem 800 for a new Sagem router.
Running Vista the PC will not recognise the router, everythings plugged in correctly without doubt, all the correct lights are illuminated on the front. But the PC will just not identify the router, any ideas?
To prove the router is working I connected my 2nd pc (xp) through the 2nd ethernet port and here I am on yahoo answers.

I'm in the UK. My provider states that broadband has been connected. I've got no lights (other than power) on my router (I've tried more than 1 router, more than 1 filter and all BT sockets I can find) and still there are no lights to indicate there is connection to broadband.
Is any of you brain boxes prepared to let me call you for help? I'm more than happy to pay for any help that gets me going.

Make sure you net card is set up is set to DHCP
If the lights are not flashing there is something wrong with the Modem.
