I get lagg spikes while playing games using my Linksys USB network adapter?
I have had a Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter on my PC for about 4 years now, and I download fast (400-800Kbs)
and Web browsing is fine, however when I try to play online games, I get lagg spikes every 20 seconds or so, ranging from 1-5 seconds long. I%26#039;ve been trying to find a solution to fix this other than Hardwireing my computer.
I%26#039;ve tried changing the channel that my Modem and router transmit on, changing my encryption from 32 bit to 64 bit etc..
Also I just tried Pinging Linksys.com and I lost 100% of my packets... so I used run%26gt;cmd%26gt;ipconfig/all%26gt;ipconfig/release%26gt;ip... - and I still have the same problems.. now im running Windows XP just to clarify, and the next thing I tried was. run%26gt;cmd%26gt;tracert www.comcast.net - I have comcast cable.
And I pinged all of the ip%26#039;s, all were fine except two. one gave me 100% loss, and another gave me 50% loss. Idk what that means as far as where or why my internet would be failing, any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

it sounds like your router is messed up on the inside, call linksys and tell them whats going on, see if you can just exchange the router for a new one.

We work on a website together and we want one place where we can access all of the files we need. We have been using FTP but it is too much work. We just want to be able to share actual files on a computer, like an external hard drive. Is there a way to set up a connection between us two to this drive?

So then, all of you can use ms rdc (remote desktop connection) tool to remote logon to the remote machine with different remote control session even at same time (they won%26#039;t conflict) and same resource (hard drive...) on the machine.

I have a modem with a Ethernet port, and USB port, the internet is linked to the computer through the USB port.

okay so i have the router linksys wrt54g and my wifi says i have great signal strength on my itouch and then when i go in safari it doesnt work.. and my ip address starts off with 169.x.x.x and i entered my DNS and my subnet mask but for my ip address is it DHCP? and for the HTTP proxy what do i do off? im really not good with stuff like this so keep it simple please!

How can i get faster broadband?
I am a Sky broadband customer with the 16mb package but my internet is sooo slow its really getting me mad! It takes an average of 10-40 seconds for a website page to load! Ive tried to find out what speed i am getting but ive had so many different answers i dont know which is correct. I have 2mb broadband (virgin) at another house and it takes 10 mins to load a 60 mins film compared to about 70 mins (good day) on 16mb Sky broadband. I have a 12 month contract so i guess canceling is out of the question. I mostly browse on a Playstation 3 but even on my laptop its rubbish so i dont think the PS3 is the problem. Is there any way i can get sky to provide me with faster broadband or will they just politely tell me to go away! Surely i can because they are providing me with a much much slower speed than what i am paying for. Its really getting me down i dont know what i can do. All helpfull answers greatly appreciated

I have my local connection and I%26#039;m also using a VPN connection. So technically I have two networks connected to with one being virtual. When I want to do a ping on computers on the remote network I%26#039;m vpn%26#039;ed to, I%26#039;m not able to. But my question is how does the computer know which network to look when performing a lookup (ping). Does it just do a look up on both networks or is there a step that it takes?

I am trying to link an infrared enabled laptop to a desktop computer with a palm. Would this be possible?
As I mentioned in the question, I have a laptop (with an infrared port) and a desktop computer which I am trying to link with my existing hardware, and because I don%26#039;t want to waste any additional money on more stuff, so I thought since I have a palm with a usb cord (actually 2) that maybe I could somehow install it on the desktop computer for file transfer. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I have many shares on this server (quickbooks, etc) all users have full access rights and permissions on these shares.
Here is my issue: I cannot browse by Hostname (\\servername)
however, I can browse (\\10.0.0.210) without a problem.
Please let me know if you can point me out in the right direction.

Doeas anybody know how to connect a Vonage Box directly to a laptop with 3G wireless internet connection?
My computer has a Huawei E800 card which provides my computer Internet connection anywhere. Since the internet connection arrives directly to my laptop, I was trying to connect my D-link Vonage box directly to the laptop with no luck. After many attempts I have been able to get from the Vonage box a solid Power light + a solid internet light but no phone light at all. I have connected the Vonage box to my ethernet port on the laptop using a reverse cable (orange instead of blue), and then shared my internet connection. I also have tried creating a bridge between connection and using a router between the laptop and the Vonage box with no luck. The message is always the same %26quot;the Vonage box can%26#039;t contact the Vonage network%26quot;. I also made sure my service is active on the Vonage website. Same Vonage box works fine when using the standard connection form (cable internet service to modem, to router and then to Vonage Box), so I know the box is ok. Ethernet Internet Router Problems?
Hi, I have purchased an ethernet internet router and spent 3 hours attempting to set it up, with no luck. I have linked the ethernet cables to each computer and into the router, and then linked the router to my modem as instructed. But the computers will not detect each other or the network. Can anyone help?

I am looking into buying a router for my home/perrsonal use. I just wanteed to know if this was a good router. by good router i mean is it fast, and does it have a far range. Also most importantly I want to know this. ookay i have 4 computers in my house (gotta upgrade 2 tho) umm.. and 3 of them are computers while the other is a laptop. (the laptop and one of the computers are good to go) . and i wanted to know if the router would work with all of them. umm.. i know it will work with the laptop becaus of its built in wirreless connection thing. but im not sure about the other 3 computers. will the router work for the other 3 comps? any help woluld be greatly appreciated

The computer I am invited to help via remote access says %26quot;screen view only%26quot;.

By logging into my school network through the network director of technology , I can have access to anyone in the school%26#039;s saved files. I would like to transfer some files onto a flash drive. We can%26#039;t get internet through a router. We don%26#039;t know if it%26#039;s the ISP, the modem, the router (probably not, we%26#039;ve tried two) or the two computers. I have no idea who to ask to help fix it, because the ISP guy is pretty useless and we%26#039;ve tried just about everything.

Ok so my mom has broadband connection on her computer, and mine is hooked up to hers thro a lynksys w/e. my computer used to be dial up, and i tried everything. i did the internet explorer tools thing, i tried everything, making a new connection, connection wizard. idk what else to do, can sum 1 help me?

You have to have a cat.5 or 6 patch cable (crossover cable) connected from your computer to the router.
Google hooking up a router. Don%26#039;t you have the documentation from the Linksys router? If you read the documentation it will take you through the complete installation. Or go to the Linksys website and look up your model and it will explain everything.
If everything else fails see if you can get help from your ISP technical support.

You have to have a cat.5 or 6 patch cable (crossover cable) connected from your computer to the router.
Google hooking up a router. Don%26#039;t you have the documentation from the Linksys router? If you read the documentation it will take you through the complete installation. Or go to the Linksys website and look up your model and it will explain everything.
If everything else fails see if you can get help from your ISP technical support.
Linksys WRT160N?
Does anybody know if the Linksys WRT160N supports the advanced web based utility like all other linksys routers do. I%26#039;m pretty sure it does, however I don%26#039;t want to take the chance. I like to set my own wireless settings and VPN settings. thanks

Internet Connection Problem with Gateway Failing?
I currently have a linksys speed booster router that hooked up my computers and xbox. It all worked fine until one night, the power kept flickering on and off and my internet didnt work through the router anymore. I tried unplugging everything but that doesnt work. When i go to the network connections in my computer it shows that i am connected but i my gateway is disabled. when i try to enable it, it says Connection Failed!. How do i fix this and its not my cable modem since i disconnected my router and hooked the modem directly to the computer. the only thing i can think of is that my router broke when there was a power outage or it reset itself. Also, i tried troubleshooting it and it can find the internet connection

this computer i%26#039;m on now is plugged into a router this is how its all set up the router is getting the internet from the modem then my Ethernet cable is coming from the router to the computer and giving me internet but when i hook up another Ethernet cable and plug it into a second computer it says i get a local connection but yet when i go to get on the internet it says it can%26#039;t be found i have tryed almost about everything i cant think of also if it helps its just running normal internet explorer.
