Transferring data with USB drive, Is it tracable?

By logging into my school network through the network director of technology , I can have access to anyone in the school%26#039;s saved files. I would like to transfer some files onto a flash drive. My question is would me copy and pasting into my flash drive be tracked, or noted in a log, and be viewable by the director of technology

I%26#039;m not a 1337 h4X0r or anything I just was able to find out the password

Yes, it will show the files were downloaded by the director. Be careful though, if they catch on, they could see when he logs on, and track it to the computer you used.

i dont think so
Reply:In a Windows system, each file keeps track of information such as when it was last modified and when it was last accessed automatically.

Anyone could check that last field to see when it was last accessed. The Dir of Tech could also check to see when %26quot;he%26quot; last logged on. If anyone noticed a discrepancy there, you might get caught, but it%26#039;s unlikely. That%26#039;s the default.

There%26#039;s also the possibility that your school has actually installed monitoring software that logs all access and activity. In that case, yes, you%26#039;re being logged. You%26#039;d have to know exactly what administrative/monitoring software is installed to know exactly what is being logged and how.
Reply:The question is not %26quot;can they%26quot; but %26quot;will they.%26quot; Yes, they can, but they%26#039;re not sitting and watching all the downloads and transfers that every employee/student in the school makes. They look into suspicious activities. If you download 6 GBs from another student%26#039;s folder, then they might find that to be something worth looking into. Of course, the first thing they%26#039;ll do is talk to the real Network Director. They won%26#039;t be able to tell it%26#039;s you unless your school has some sort of video security system (then they could see when you signed in and go to that same time on the security camera, but remember, they%26#039;d only do this if what you do is suspicious).

The best thing to do is keep a low profile, don%26#039;t download a huge amount, don%26#039;t change any important settings and stay on the computer for as short as possible.

And by all means, don%26#039;t say %26quot;1337 h4X0r%26quot; again! That%26#039;s very degrading to both you, and people who do hack. Leet is nothing more then something to laugh at, no true hacker uses leet seriously. It all started as a common typo that got a good laugh.
