How to set up a LAN?

I want to set up a LAN using 4 computers:


XP home system w/ netgear card


Vista laptop


Vista home system


xp home system





i have a router (netgear) and a modem





part's wireless and part is not





need help with it for first LAN party
How to set up a LAN?
Hook all pcs up to the router. When you have internet access you should be good to go to play lan games. You dont really have to setup a "lan" to play games against each other. Depending on what game you are wanting to play, you might have to install ipx/spx. But thats usually only for older games. Once you have connectivity to the internet from all computers, pop in the game on each pc and use the lan option in game. If you only have one cd, you will have to install printer and file sharing on each computer and share the cd drive on the pc that is using the game. Then you can use the cd drive on the computer that has the game, on all computers. If you need help setting that part up just PM me on vrysxyboy2002 using yahoo messenger.

YOU WILL NEED TO SET UP THE PC'S TO FIND EACH OTHER FIRST,IN VISTA GOTO NETWORK AND SHARING ,STRAIGHT FORWARD JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS,ON XP YOU WILL NEED TO GOTO SET UP HOME NETWORK,AGAIN FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS,IF ANY PCS CANT SEE EACH OTHER ,UNPLUG THE ETHERNET CABLE TO THAT PC ,REPLUG AND THAT SHOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM,DROP ME AN EMAIL IF YOU NEED MORE HELP......,I HAVE 5 PCS ON OUIR HOME NETWORK
