What is Bandwidth and Data Compression?

Bandwidth is the speed at which data is transmitted, like 10 MBPS, 100 MBPS etc. Data compression is used to transmit more data with the given bandwidth.
What is Bandwidth and Data Compression?
Bandwidth (1) A range within a band of frequencies or wavelengths.

(2) The amount of data that can be transmitted in a fixed amount of time. For digital devices, the bandwidth is usually expressed in bits per second(bps) or bytes per second. For analog devices, the bandwidth is expressed in cycles per second, or Hertz (Hz).

The bandwidth is particularly important for I/O devices. For example, a fast disk drive can be hampered by a bus with a low bandwidth. This is the main reason that new buses, such as AGP, have been developed for the PC.

data compression or source coding is the process of encoding information using fewer bits (or other information-bearing units) than an unencoded representation would use through use of specific encoding schemes.

explains it very clear for you

copression

Storing data in a format that requires less space than usual
Reply:best way to describe it.

If the internet were a highway, and your connetion to the internet were a road, bandwith would represent how may vehicles could go down the road at the same time.

in simplest terms bandwidth is the speed at which a netork transfers data.

for data compression, again, the highway analogy. its like taking a tour bus full of clowns and squishing it down to a subcompact car, with all the same clowns in it.

information gets compressed to a smaller size, to transmit faster. then, at the recieving end, the data is decompressed back to its original size.

hope this was clear enough.
